You feel them inside yourself, (OF you know the need to absorb and to radiate, to keep and to give. Blind instinct is balanced by intelligent foresight within you; you cannot deny the ‘let there be’, dare to affirm the ‘is’: say, ‘Let equilibrium be in me’ and equilibrium will be. This is your second day: the revelation of tile binary.
Now distinguish between these powers, the better to unite them so that hey will fertilize one another; irrigate the desert land of knowledge with the living water love; the earth is ‘the science one works on and measures’, faith is vast like the sea. Strengthen the dikes against its flood tides, but do not prevent it from raising the clouds overhead to shed rain on the earth. This will fecundate the earth; and science will sprout and blossom. Love reveals itself in nature by harmony, the sacred triangle causes its light to shine, the number three completes the Divinity, either in your ideal or in your transcendent knowledge of yourself. Your intelligence has become a mother because it has been fertilized by the spirit of faith. Let us pause here, for this miracle 0f the light is sufficient glory for the third day.
Lift up your eyes now and gaze at the sky. Behold the splendour and ordered motion of the stars. Take a compass and an astronomical telescope and pile wonder on wonder. Calculate the return of the comets and the distance of the stars. All this proceeds according to the laws of a marvellous hierarchy. This whole immensity full of worlds absorbs and surpasses all the efforts of human intelligence. So is it intelligent? It is true that the suns do not wander where they will and the planets do not stray from their orbits. The sky is an immense machine which may not indeed think, but certainly reveals and reproduces thought. The four cardinal points of the heavens, the equinoxes and the soistices, the East and the West, the Zenith and the Nadir stand at their posts like sentinels and set us a riddle to guess: the letters of
